GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Portales High School is very limited in its ability to suit the more advanced students. The only saving grace is the ability for dual enrollment. There are some teachers who are very good at their job; however, there are others who are very negative and hateful. There needs to be a more positive atmosphere.

It's a pretty easy school to go to. There are plenty of opportunities to learn but some classes are missing that could be useful. There is also not that much bullying, from my experience, at this school. Some issues I have are that the dress code is a little strict at times for things that are supposedly "satanic" and, like the community at large, people aren't the friendliest in the world and could care less about each other.

The teachers and parents need to be more involved. Focus on other activities besides sports. There's needs to be more teaching and less of playing favorites with certain people because they have the right last name. Make it fair for all students to be able to learn equally. Everyone, needs to focus on studies more.

Less than average, but not bad. Other, smaller schools in the area may offer a more specialized experience.

Most of the teachers are excellent, the principal is a good leader and is fair to the kids, the privilages that come with going to the school are fantastic, and switching to this school from Elida schools was the best decision I have ever made.

The entire Portales Public School System is overrun with favioratetism, preferencial treatment, and graft. The System is all about the System. We have not in 20 years had a sizable increese i...
