Named after a beloved school nurse who worked in Portland Public Schools for more than 30 years, the Amanda C. Rowe School provides an elementary school education for over 400 students in prekindergarten through fifth grade. The school offers English and math curricula varying in difficulty levels for each respective grade. Built in 2018, the school sits on the same grounds as its predecessor, the Hall school. The Hall School, originally constructed in 1956, had fallen into poor condition and survived an electrical fire before being torn down in 2018 to make room for its replacement. The Amanda C. Rowe school on Orono Road in the Nasons Corner neighborhood of Portland provides almost 30,000 more square feet of space than the former school. The school also serves as a community center. The school boasts an active Parent Teacher Organization and a tight-knit community. The school made local news in 2020 when Maine Gov. Janet Mills shared a note and drawing she received from a third-grade student at the Rowe School. Gov. Mills gave the student a shoutout via social media, sharing the student’s inspirational message and citing it as an example of the power of working together as a community.

I am altering my review from a couple of years ago to reflect efforts being made between then and now. The lack of parking is still a problem, but they have been actively trying to streamline the drop-off process to address the issue of kids being late to class due to being stuck in the traffic line...

Hall is an amazing elementary school with a lot of heart. They teach to the child, not the test which is probably the ironic reason they got an "F" from the governor. I would certainly rate the building and facility an "F". This school year starting with a fire and relocation couldn't have helped ei...
