For over 110 years, St. Patrick Catholic School in Portland, Michigan, has been providing faith-based education to children in preschool through high school. Through its core curriculum and extracurricular activities, St. Patrick School is committed to its mission statement, “We Pray! We Learn! We Achieve!” Elementary school students attend Mass once a week, while kindergarten students attend once a month. Through the school’s Big Rocks/Little Rocks program, students in kindergarten through fifth grade are paired with a sixth through eighth grade mentor. Mentors serve as a role model, helping their young charges succeed in school work, religious activities and fitting in. Middle and high school students receive religious education along with their core curriculum. Extracurricular activities include a youth ministry group, choir, spiritual retreats and clubs, such as art, drama and Student Council. St. Patrick Shamrocks have athletics from kindergarten through high school. The school is part of the Central Michigan Athletic Conference and Michigan High School Athletic Association, and its athletes are supported by The Rockpile, a dedicated school cheering section that promotes good sportsmanship. St. Patrick School is supported by the St. Patrick Church and Grand Rapids Diocese.

I love attending St. Patrick Catholic School. I love getting to learn about my Catholic faith every day. The teachers here are very helpful and teach lessons so that we can all understand them. The only change I would like to see at my school is having more people attend. We are very small and do not have a lot of students.

Portland Saint Patrick's is a great school and I loved every moment of it. Great teachers, and truly just amazing coaches and staff. Patrick Russman, Paul Osbourne and Terry Austen are just great people.

Not a fan. Most teachers care but some just aren't competent. Sports options and extracurriculars are limited, and there is a small student body.

This is a family oriented school that is rich in morals and values based on Christian beliefs. The classrooms are small, allowing for each child quality time with the teacher. Check out their academic ratings compared to the local public school.

The low scores (i.e. only 30% of 11th graders are proficient in math) are rather concerning. If they claim to have a 100% graduation rate, with scores such as that...it makes me leary.

Portland is one of the few communities in the state that can offer your family a school with Catholic education from daycare all the way through graduation. There isn't a better community to live in or school to entrust the care and teaching of your children. Just look at the school website and you'...
