Parent of a freshman. She came from CCPS schools. I honestly did not know what we had until we left CCPS. I had high hopes for MLWGS teachers. I prepared my child to attend a school where the teachers want to be there and support the students to become the best and brightest. We knew the academic rigor required. I wish the rigor was the issue. The teachers are consistently abhorrent. At the beginning of the year, we thought it was just one bad teacher. Unfortunately, that has not been the case. Teachers are condescending, unhelpful, egotistical, sarcastic, and rude. Teachers have rolled their eyes at my child, told kids they are \"all going to fail\", reduced multiple children to tears in front of peers, enter Fs prior to assignments even being due- they seem to LIKE inducing fear. FAR from the supportive environment we hoped for. My 8th grader was a confident and happy student and person. My 9th grader comes home tearful every day and her teachers have CRUSHED her self esteem.

Maggie Walker prepares students for the numerous essays and tests that are common in college classes. Though, there is so much stress still put on grades and I would love to see them really encourage extracurricular activities by ensuring that teachers follow through with the homework regulations.

The community at MLWGS is very strong and supportive once you find the right people. The teachers, for the most part, are very helpful and willing to work with you. However, you do have to realize that it is in fact a challenge. Maggie Walker was a challenge for me like nothing I have ever seen before. However, I have grown so much as a person because of it. I have met new people and attempted things I never would have considered otherwise. MLWGS has offered a bunch of opportunities, even though I'm not even an upperclassman. We can't underrate the amount of work and effort and time that goes into it, but it has become more worth it as time has gone on. I hope I never forget the people I've met here and the life skills that have accompanied my academic skills I've learned in my time here.
