Ps 71 Forest Elementary School Research: Overview. What grades are taught here? Is it public or private? How large is the school (population size, class sizes, classroom sizes). Is it hybrid? Where is it located within the context of the city or neighborhood? What neighborhoods are serviced by it? P.S. 71 Forest Elementary School is a public school in Queens, New York. The school serves the Ridgewood neighborhood. Students in grades pre-K through fifth grade are enrolled in PS 71. in 2021 the enrollment size was over 630 students. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the school has transitioned to remote learning. Today, teachers and faculty designed a blended in-person and remote learning program to benefit students and parents while helping teachers with underlying medical conditions that must work from home. Half of the 634 students at P.S 71 are in blended learning. Students receive live instruction whether they are inside the school building or learning remotely. Students who learn remotely spend two hours between live instruction and breakout rooms on zoom throughout their in-person school day the rest of the time they're working with instructors in the classroom. Special programming. Does the school offer specialized programs such as computer coding or foreign languages? Is it known for its athletics? What is its mascot? Does it offer any special clubs or popular activities? Students learn the culture of diverse lifestyles and languages of the local New York area. Students learn history in real-time, by visiting revolutionary war battlefields where George Washington won a battle and the Hudson State Historic Park. There is a nearby NYC Aquarium where children visit the oldest operating aquarium in the United States and explore what it is like to be an animal keeper and meet small ocean animals up close. It is common for P.S. 71 teachers to integrate the local community into their teachings. For instance, in 2021, 4th-grade students planned a celebration for younger students at the end of the year, using the math standards they learned in the year to compare prices and quantities for supplies to make purchases from the nearby BJ’s Wholesale Club. Students as early as Kindergarten begin to learn the disciplines that fall under STEM. STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, and continues to learn how to apply these concepts throughout their elementary education. Creative youth have the opportunity to learn to read music and play instruments during the morning music classes. Reputation. What is the school rating, graduation rate, and how many students go on to higher education? Does it get high remarks and reviews? If not, is there a way to put a positive spend on the schools’ trajectory? Is it under new leadership and improving? In 2020, P.S. 71 created a flexible program to combat the uncertainty of classroom closers closures during the pandemic to make a seamless and easy transition to online learning.

My daughter is currently in 2nd grade. She has been attending P.S 71 since pre-k, I would recommend this school to everyone. Principal Ms. Soto is amazing !! She communicates and has an open door policy for all parents. She is always found walking the school and greeting the students, she refers to the students as her kids. If that doesn't give u confidence in sending your child here, I dont know what would. Teachers are attentive and caring towards children. My child is exceeding academically. Dont believe all these negative reviews. I am so happy I choose this school for my daughter. We will sure miss it when she graduates.

Extremely disappointed for the past few years. Overcrowded classes, no recess for the past three years, blended program during pandemic times handled very poorly. Forest Elementary basically offered remote learning at the school property for the blended children. My child is constantly praised and t...

This schools went downhill in the last few years. Overcrowded classes ( my child has over 30 kids in class for years), principal says one thing and does another, old building and no outdoor recess since 2018 due to neverending construction. Some teachers do care but no much they can do. Take your ch...
