GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Upper Mississippi Academy is a decent school for those who want or need an alternative high school experience. The classes are small and the teachers are open-minded and accepting. However, many classes are unstructured and there is excessive use of computers. Also, small class sizes mean you have to see the same people every day, which is hard if you don't get along with your classmates. The food is bad—bring a lunch from home.

I've been a UMA parent as well as a board member. My child has been enrolled since 6th grade and has found very supportive teachers and friends at the school. She loves the curriculum choices, the "hands-on" approach to learning, the Pathways model, and the fact that most 'homework" can be accomplis...

My child benefits from small class sizes and staff that really get to know her. The staff at UMA are committed to seeing all students succeed regardless of how they come to the classroom. My child has a 504 and has been supported consistently and actively encouraged to advocate for what she needs to...

My son goes to school here. He is thriving because of the small class sizes, hands on learning and outside time with several field trips to the river! Excellent culinary arts class and strong music teacher who is a musician outside of school.
