I grew up in SLC, left, then returned as a new parent. I wasn't sure if the city and schools I remembered matched the reality of today, so I did a LOT of research and found a new home within my familiar home at The McGillis School. While the academics are superlative - children are treated as individuals, challenged, and respected - it's much more than that which keeps us there. The values of the school, crystalized by their six essential attributes and visible in everything the school does, are what bind the community together. As one administrator put it to me, "The academics are a given, they have to be. We assume they need to become adults who can lead in this world. The trick is making sure when they become leaders, they are making ethical, thoughtful, humane decisions." So what makes McGillis different? I don't know, exactly. We haven't gone elsewhere. All I know is I don't know how it could be better.

We are very grateful that our kids could enjoy...

WOW - This is a program where on Thursdays in the Winter the kids get to choos...

The McGillis School is an academically rigorous, thoughtful, and values-based school. From the day I toured until now, four years later, I have never gotten over the feeling that the school truly cares about each student, and each member of its broader community. As one of the administrators once sa...
