Harry Rogers Middle School is a part of the San Antonio Independent School District, the third largest school district in the greater San Antonio area. Named after former district president and community leader Harry Rogers, the school opened in 1960 at its present location. It is one of the smaller middle schools in the district and the only middle school serving the Highland Hills neighborhood. Rogers serves grades six – eight and is rated by NICHE, which evaluates colleges and schools based on several core competencies, above average in the area of student body diversity. Employing tenets of Project Based Learning, Rogers uses a student-centered approach that focuses on collaboration and development of critical thinking skills. Foundational curricula include Science, Reading, Mathematics, English Language Arts, and Social Studies. Other programs available are Advancement Via Individual Determination, Algebra 1, and English as a Second Language. Students also have a number of extracurricular activities to select from such as National Junior Honor Society, Athletics, Band and Choir.
