GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Throughout my years in high school i've faced multiple challenges and bumps along the way. There has been times when i've felt unsafe because of the lack of "security". I've felt discriminated by some of my peers for not knowing the english language fluently. I've been accused of having drugs on me for the way I choose to dress, and most of all I've been judged by teachers for the color of my skin, But in the end I choose to have a positive mindset and keep pushing myself to succeed in my high school journey.

I originally went to James Madison my freshman and half of my sophomore year and at Madison I felt like a number. I really did not feel the teachers made enough effort to help out in class, but as soon as I went to MacArthur it was so different the teachers were so nice, and you can tell they really wanted everyone to succeed and pass their classes so they could graduate.

Overall, the teachers and students I see on a daily are wonderful people. I'm able to get in contact with my teachers if I need tutoring and guidance from my counselor. I see the Principle on Tuesday afternoons, taking care of oncoming traffic. And met with the Vice Principal, because he was worried about my attendance. The staff at MacArthur High school are amazing at what they do.

I was a recent student at MacArthur and while the school has potential it’s held back due to the lack of funding, understaffed and underpaid teachers, and many troubled students who have serious mental health problems. The drug gang cliques are very common and the some of the fights I witnessed look...

I graduated from Macarthur in the spring of 2024. My experience was a…mixed bag. There’s a definite drug problem, and lots of fights. Glass doors were shattered multiple times during my 4 years there. Most of the teachers were pretty good, especially in the English and Science departments. While bur...
