GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

This school excels in their academics and carries strong school spirit. There is a place for everyone at Maria Carrillo. The staff have no control over the temperatures in the classrooms it is often too hot or too cold. The school lunch if often just small prepackaged bags of steamed food such as mini cheeseburgers. Unfortunately it is not very good and I have personally felt sick after consuming the school lunch. I often feel some money should go less to the fun spirited activities and more into what the children are consuming at school for lunch and breakfast.

Maria Carrillo has over all been a great school for me, the teachers and students are very kind. We have great sports and events that most students enjoy attending and each class I have taken has helped me in its own way in preparing me for my next step in life. I would like to see change where there is more safety and possibly more regulation because of certain students. The best part of going to Carrillo is probably the people that you meet and the teachers who are always helpful.

Overall I had a great experience at Maria Carrillo High School. The athletics were great, the teachers were supportive. The classes were a bit more rigorous than other high schools in the area, but I was able to keep up and maintain a 3.9 gpa. I don't have any negatives to say.

Overall, pretty okay for high school. Lots of homework for the first three years (I am a senior) but it gets better 4th year. I feel very prepared for college academics wise. Good LGBTQ+ rep too, the student population is mostly indifferent/accepting. The only large problem is the amount of bathroom...

The homework load is heavy and they are not lenient about it even during distance learning. My daughter already struggled with her foreign language course when it was in-classroom, and as you can imagine, learning a foreign language over Zoom has been a nightmare for her. This school has such great...
