Mark West Elementary School shares its name with many sites in eastern Sonoma County, all named after Scottish American pioneer William Marcus West. First opened in 1868, Mark West is the original school in the district and the first Spanish-speaking school in the county. In tandem with the district’s other schools, Mark West works to build core academic competency for grades TK-6 while also supporting students’ emotional growth. They offer a music program funded by the Mark West Education Foundation and small group instruction in the three R’s that allows for targeted teaching unique to each child. Mark West Elementary enjoys a close partnership with the Community Soil Foundation, which gets kids outside and learning in the garden. The Larkfield Community Garden and Learning Center in Maddux Ranch Regional Park is a bonus classroom for these students, who can learn about regenerative agriculture in a hands-on way. Whether learning in the building or outside, Mark West Elementary is a place looking to welcome your children in and help them grow in the best ways they can.
