At Sparta Middle School, sixth through eighth grade students can engage in collaborative, inclusive, interdisciplinary study. The public middle school creates this environment by combining a team of dedicated teachers with the Steps to Respect curriculum in a state-of-the-art facility. The Sparta Middle School building was completed in 2020, creating a welcoming and inspirational space with classrooms and meeting rooms. The building is also home to the Region 1 Moderately Cognitively Impaired, MHSAA athletics and an English Language Learners program. Sparta Middle School teachers are trained in the Capturing Kids Hearts process, which promotes emotional well-being and builds positive relationships throughout the school community. A range of activities supplement traditional classroom learning, and students can participate in band, Science Olympiad, drama or the National Junior Honor Society. Students in seventh and eighth grade can compete in cross-country, volleyball, football, competitive cheer, wrestling and more. Sixth grade Spartans can attend practices and be entered in exhibitions as part of their physical education. As a community center of learning, Sparta Middle School provides summer educational opportunities for local students. Summer intensive topics rotate yearly but typically include engineering, art, athletics and math used in real-world applications.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
