The oldest school in the Tampa Bay area, Academy of the Holy Names was founded in 1881 by two Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary. Today, the school has nearly 1,000 students in pre-kindergarten through high school.
Boys and girls attend the lower school and middle school programs, while high school is for girls only. The 19-acre campus faces Bayshore Boulevard and features outdoor amenities including a play area, covered picnic tables, a courtyard and athletic facilities.
The Jaguars, as the school’s students are known, compete in 35 sports in middle and high school athletics.
Besides sports, the Catholic academy has other co-curricular activities to create well-rounded students. High schoolers can take part in clubs such as Speech and Debate, Peer Faith Community and the Social Justice Club. Eligible students may be selected for a variety of honor societies.
Academically, the curriculum encourages critical and creative thinking and the school has rigorous standards for all its students. Advanced Placement classes in English, math, science, art, social studies and world languages are on offer.
Spiritually, a campus ministry involves prayer services and masses as well as community service. Students also go on mission trips each year.
In every aspect, Academy of the Holy Names strives “to teach to the whole child” to develop lifelong learners and leaders.

I would not recommend this school to anyone. The school is filled with Old Tampa families who do not know when it is time to move on. The mothers live vicariously through their daughters, and take the drama of their daughters into their own relationships. The teachers only focus on the "average stud...
