Nestled within the Sierra Tempe subdivision, Kyrene de las Manitas School is surrounded by single-family homes and well-manicured yards near the neighborhood’s central playground, Campbell Park. As part of the Kyrene School District covering South Tempe, the school currently serves children in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade, but this may change. The school may expand to the eighth grade in the near future, as it transforms into the Kyrene de las Manitas Innovation Academy. With a new approach to education, the academy will focus more on personalized, project-based learning with cooperative lessons, where students — working in small groups —and are encouraged to ask questions and engage in discussion. This shift should only continue the school’s trend toward higher test scores in reading and math, which are already well above the state average. Kyrene de las Manitas often ranks in the top 25% of elementary schools in Arizona. Outside of its core curriculum, the school also offers a number of before- and after-school enrichment classes taught by Kyrene teachers. These range from art and foreign language to drama and etiquette — helping students achieve a well-rounded educational experience.

We have had a great experience with the teachers here. They are passionate about this new model of multi-age grouping with an emphasis on project-based learning, and it’s been great to see them improve upon it from year to year. Our son’s teachers care about his success and growth in academics as we...

This is a bad school. The teachers have no care for the students feelings. It can give a student much trauma from bullying. The teachers really don't care about the students academic growth, mainly if they have some kind of disability that can change the way they learn. Students can come in crying a...

My child was always bullied and was just getting left behind and behind academically. I pulled him out during the 3rd week of the school year.
