GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

While my education is at my own pace, I often feel pressured, as if I am progressing to slow for my teachers/administration.

Early College Alliance is great for preparing for college, as you take college classes when you're deemed ready by the teachers. However, there is less discipline in this high school than others, as the campus is a college so some people mess around too much. There is also no options for sports through ECA, so if you want to play you need to go through a different school. There is also some prejudice in some of the teachers that is apparent through grades and treatment.

The Early College Alliance at Eastern Michigan University (ECA @ EMU) can overwhelm some high school students, as they are expected to be more independent and disciplined at an earlier age. Yet, while the ECA @ EMU may seem like it gives them a great amount of responsibility in terms of taking college courses, there is also abundant aid for these same students to reach out to. High school students have constant support, including school counselors, advisors, and social workers. Additionally, the ECA @ EMU regularly has parent involvement, who are able to provide feedback. Eastern's diverse campus is very welcoming and safe for these students. The best part of this program is the flexibility for students to either explore their possible career options by taking a large range of university courses, or go straight into getting a head start on an associate's or bachelor's degree for their chosen major. And lastly, this feature is entirely to no cost at all for the student and family.

ECA is really two programs - a limited (algebra/geometry, english, soclial studies, science/biology) 10th grade high school program which is designed to prep students for college, and early college which is matriculating classes at EMU. Students enter in 10th grade (usually) from participating distr...

ECA is a specialized high school/early college program at EMU. The program is small enough that the kids all get a lot of personal attention & flexibility, yet it also leverages all of the resources of the EMU campus. Teachers & staff are extraordinarily dedicated and know how to work with students...
