Sulphur, Oklahoma is a small south Oklahoma town in the foothills of the Arbuckle Mountains, known for its natural sulfur springs, the Chickasaw National Recreation Area and the Artesian Hotel, Casino and Spa. The recreation area is one of Sulphur’s main attractions, centered on Lake of the Arbuckles, which has about 36 miles of shoreline and more than 2,300 acres for fishing, camping and nature trails that wind past creeks, springs and small waterfalls. Rock Creek and Veterans Lake are common swimming spots, and there is a nine-hole course at Sulphur Hills Golf Course north of downtown. The Artesian Hotel and casino draw visitors for gambling, events and spa stays, and West Broadway Avenue has restaurants, a winery and everyday stops like Walmart Supercenter and Sooner Foods. Housing in Sulphur leans older, with many remodeled cottages, bungalows and ranch-style homes on modest quarter-acre lots in town, and larger rural properties with five to 20 acres near Lake of the Arbuckles.
