Rural Neighborhood in Adelanto, California
San Bernardino County 92372, 92397
Peace fills the space between California State Highways 18 and 138. This span of land is also where some of the homes in Pinon Hills can be found, including some located closer to the mountains.
Whether you live between the two main highways or just outside of them, you are guaranteed a view of Mt. San Antonio, the tallest peak in Los Angeles County, based less than 60 miles away. “We get all four seasons; there are local hiking trails, a ski resort and it’s centrally located to the beach, mountains and Las Vegas,” says Realtor Kathy Hoffman, who has been with Coldwell Banker Home Source since January 2019. “Pinon Hills has great air quality, friendly people, space and a welcome vibe. The commute is a little hard if you have to travel to LA for work, but the high desert is growing, including employment.”
In Pinon Hills, you will see varying house styles, including a mix of 1980s and 2000s ranch-style homes, each with accompanying fenced-in yards. Depending on the additional acreage, these properties range in price between $390,000 for a new, three-bedroom mobile home to $530,000 for a three-bedroom, remodeled single-family home. “People who appreciate having space love it here. They can raise animals, ride off-road vehicles and more,” Hoffman says. Additionally, furry friends can have fun kicking the dust up while running around the flat, open stretch of land.
Children attend Pinon Hills Elementary School, which holds a B grade from Niche. This school is an AVID institution, meaning its classes are structured to promote college and career success. Similarly, Pinon Mesa Middle School, the next stepping stone, has a 23-1 student-to-teacher ratio and received a B grade from Niche. Once students reach ninth grade, they can attend Serrano High School, a Niche B-plus graded school, which offers Advanced Placement (AP) courses and Gifted Programs.
When looking to get out of the house, Pinon Hills Park provides multiple meeting places for the community. Children can play on the playset while parents sit and talk in the shady picnic area. Walk along the paved paths that wind throughout the park or practice your jump shot at the basketball court before heading to the Pinon Hills Community Center or Pinon Hills Senior Center, also located on the property. Phelan Community Park is another nearby option, located six miles away, and has paved paths, a basketball court, a playground and covered picnic areas. Additionally, you can select some fresh produce at the year-round Farmers Market held there each Monday, featuring local vendors.
While highway traveling along California 138, you will see all types of desert shrubbery before coming across local favorite Rick’s Roadside Café, which has served customers breakfast and lunch staples like pancakes, home fries and sandwiches, since 1997. Just up the street is Casa Ortega, where you can get authentic Mexican. Head into Phelan, just five miles east of Pinon Hills, and visit Stater Bros. Market for groceries. Dollar General is also nearby, off CA-138, for possible last-minute projects.
Pinon Hills provides the peace and privacy of a desert town without total isolation. As such, you are only one of two state highways away from shopping, dining and adventure along the mountain trails.
