Travelers passing through Allen Park might know it by “world’s largest tire” perched alongside Interstate 94, but this small city in the Detroit suburbs is much more than a roadside attraction. Home to around 28,000 residents, Allen Park is a suburban city just 13 miles west of downtown Detroit. It’s also where many of Ford Motor Company's facilities and offices are located. “It’s not too far from the expressway; people who want to live on the outskirts of Detroit move here,” says Miranda Morrow, licensed real estate broker at National Realty Centers with over 15 years of experience. Compared to other Detroit neighborhoods, “it’s more established. It’s quiet and settled,” she says.

Well-kept midcentury homes
While the median home price in Wayne County was $150,000 as of November 2023, Allen Park tends to be a little pricier, with homes typically listing for between $170,000 and $250,000. The area is fully developed, so new builds are rare; the existing homes have instead been well-kept and many boast recently renovated interiors. Allen Park contains mostly three-bedroom midcentury brick ranch-style homes. However, there are some two-story Colonial Revivals and homes dating back to the 1920s. There is only a minor risk of flooding to area homes, but roads may flood occasionally.
