The community is suburban, with homes that have grassy lawns, bushes and small- to medium-size trees. Residential streets are wide enough that cars can park on both sides without blocking traffic. While Fairburn Road, a main thoroughfare, has a sidewalk, many smaller roads in the car-dependent area do not. The neighborhood’s median age is around 35, and its population under 18 is above the national average.

Fairburn Heights’ location is one of its biggest draws. The community sits at the intersection of interstates 285 and 20, which respectively can get drivers around and through the heart of Atlanta. It takes roughly 15 minutes to reach Downtown Atlanta and Peachtree Center with no traffic slowdowns — though as Whitesell says, “It doesn’t have to be rush hour [in Atlanta]. There’s just traffic.” I-20 West also leads toward Six Flags Over Georgia, around 10 minutes away. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is close to a 20-minute drive. Several Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority bus stops sit along Fairburn Road.
Students attend Atlanta Public Schools
Students are zoned for highly rated Atlanta Public Schools, with Harper-Archer Elementary School sitting in the neighborhood. The highly rated Whitefield Academy, a private school for prekindergarten through 12th-grade students, is roughly 5 miles away. The Georgia Promise Scholarship sends eligible families nearly $6,500 to cover private school tuition and other expenses.
