A 1900s Georgia community
One of America’s first planned communities, Avondale Estates was built by founder Georgie Wills in the early 1900s east of Atlanta, Georgia. The city was built around a Tudor-style village center as a mimic of Stratford-upon-Avon in England, with small neighborhood parks and a lake. “It doesn’t feel like you’re in the suburbs,” says Vanessa Reilly, a Realtor with Domo Realty, “It’s more like you're in your community.” Home of the Original Waffle House restaurant and just over 2 miles from Decatur, Avondale Estates has plenty of retail space in Decatur Square and locals looking to be active outside and engage with the community can do so at the Town Green, which hosts massive community events throughout the year.

Lakefront views and unique builds
“All the homes are different and unique. It gives the neighborhood a fun, authentic and local vibe,” says Reilly. A 100-year-old canopy of trees lines walkable streets in a fast-moving market of Tudor-style, craftsman, and midcentury modern homes. Prices start at $500,000; anything from size to finish quality and stylistic features on windows, trim and doors can bring that price up to $1.2 million. Proximity to Avondale Lake also leads to these high prices, along with access to a beautiful lakefront view and the woods of Avondale Estates' historical district park.

Community Events at the Town Green
The Town Green sits on 5 acres of fields with an amphitheater as its main drawer. Residents can gather for private outings or join the massive community events. On weekends, locals can walk to the oldest farmers' market in the state, Avondale Estates Farmer’s Market, each Sunday from March to November. The community is active and utilizes many of its amenities that have been here since its founding, such as Willis Park with its updated walkways, playground, and tennis court, and Bess Walker Park by Avondale Lake, which provides a walking area for residents. Community events are held throughout the year, such as the Fourth of July Parade, AutumnFest art show and the Easter Antique Car Parade. Though it’s a private club, a significant part of the community enjoys the facilities offered by Avondale Swim & Tennis Club, such as a private pool and tennis court.
