Adjacent to Baltimore’s largest park and only blocks away from public transit, West Forest Park offers easy access to the city combined with suburban comforts and outdoor recreation.

Located less than 5 miles from Hampden and 7 miles from Inner Harbor, the neighborhood consists of single-family homes and brick row houses. “There’s very unique architecture built over different time frames. Stone and brick properties from the early 1900s, row houses and big houses with siding built in the 50s and 60s,” ExecuHome Realtor Alan-Michael Carter explains. “There’s a rancher next to a big house. It’s very unique.” Whether looking for a space to sprawl out and customize your home or a place that’s easier to maintain and contributes to a strong sense of community, you can probably find what you’re looking for right in the neighborhood. Three-bedroom homes cost between $130,000 and $250,000, while larger homes range from $225,000 to $325,000. For a lower price point, homes sold as-is go for $60,000 to $126,000.

During the school year, students can begin at Liberty Elementary. With seven teachers boasting National Board Certification and hundreds of computers on-site, the school provides students with a well-rounded education. The closest option for middle school is Windsor, and the nearest high school is Forest Park, just over a mile away. Forest Park High recently underwent renovation, increasing technology access and adding collaborative learning spaces throughout the building.

Flanked by Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park, the neighborhood offers ample outdoor adventure opportunities. Start a lengthy walk through the woodlands along the Dickeyville Trail, a branch of the more extensive Gwynns Falls Trail. Whether looking to walk 2 miles or 20, the park includes a path for it all. Feel free to bring your dog along to enjoy scenic views together.

In addition to the trails, the park also includes a fitness center, gymnasium, splash pad, and indoor pool at the Cahill Fitness and Wellness Center. Built sustainably, the recreational center incorporates energy-efficient lighting into its environmentally conscious construction. Because a 1000-acre forest surrounds the center, you get to gaze upon greenery as you get fit.

If you’d rather play a round of golf, grab your clubs and head to Forest Park Golf Course, also bordering the neighborhood. “It’s a historic community, and a lot of older folk use the course a lot,” Carter expresses. “There’s also a lot of people driving in to use it. It’s a nice golf course and has city owners.” Don’t let the peaceful beauty of the fairways fool you, however. The courses challenge even the most seasoned golfers because of the natural terrain.

For all your daily essentials, catch the bus on West Forest Park Ave and ride to one of the largest grocery stores in the city of Baltimore. “There’s ShopRite on Liberty Heights, right up the street from the golf course,” Carter says. The store includes a pharmacy, deli, and bakery. For more extensive shopping trips, drive to Mondawmin Mall on Liberty Heights Ave. Whether you’re looking to buy the latest video games or find your new favorite sweater, the mall’s selection of stores caters to it all. You can even get a quick meal from Granny’s, a restaurant with a menu filled with family recipes.

Venturing to downtown? Catch the metro at the West Cold Spring station, less than 2 miles away. To travel outside the city, hop onto Interstate 695 or Interstate 83. Within 15 miles, reach Towson, Owings Mills, or Glen Burnie.

In West Forest Park, embrace your love of nature without sacrificing access to all Baltimore offers.
