About Beverly Hills, MI

About Beverly Hills, MI

Not 90201, but a charming community nonetheless

While not as well-known as the “90210” address on the West Coast, Metro Detroit’s Beverly Hills village shares the charm of a picturesque, upmarket community while offering far friendlier housing prices to potential homebuyers. Realtor Ed Butler, an expert on historic communities throughout the Metro Detroit area, says of Beverly Hills, “It’s still pretty fancy, but won’t cost you quite as much to call it home.” Beverly Hills has an interesting history of its own. “Originally, it was incorporated in 1958 as Westwood. They incorporated it as a village so that it would not be gobbled up by Southfield,” Butler says. “A year later, they decided to change their name to Beverly Hills in hopes of attracting people who were loving the ‘Beverly Hills’ out to the west and attracting that same affluent crowd to Michigan.” Beverly Hills has since become the largest village in all of Michigan, with nearly 11,000 residents living within four square miles of tranquil suburbia. “Beverly Hills has often been forgotten about because it is located smack-dab in between other great cities, and it’s so small,” Butler says. “That’s how residents like it, because it keeps that community a lot quainter and quieter.”

From Colonial Revivals to midcentury moderns

The blissfully calm atmosphere of Beverly Hills is not the only factor drawing homebuyers to this village 19 miles northwest of Detroit. “One of the more attractive things that brings people to Beverly Hills village is that there are very diverse architectural styles in the village,” Butler adds. “The Colonial Revival style is very prevalent here, and one of my personal favorites — which is making a strong comeback — is the midcentury modern architectural style.” Houses in Beverly Hills sell for anywhere from $400,000 for a brick ranch-style home to over $1.5 million for spacious Colonial Revivals, ensuring that homebuyers have plenty of choices when it comes to the home and the lifestyle they desire.

Sledding and family reunions in Beverly Hills Park

Unlike its California counterpart, this Beverly Hills fully lives up to its nature-themed name, making great use of its beautiful, Midwestern geography by offering locals plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation. Butler says, “You’ve got two major parks: Beverly Hills Village and Riverside Park. Both are great, well-maintained areas where you would be lucky to throw an event, have a family reunion, or just go out there, celebrate and have fun on a Saturday afternoon.” Beverly Hills Park, with its steep slopes perfect for wintertime sledding, its disc golf course, its playground, and its friendly wildlife, stands out as one of Metro Detroit’s finest parks.

Long-standing community favorites like Beverly Hills Grill

Beverly Hills is just around the corner from Woodward Avenue and its wealth of restaurants, while Southfield Road’s shopping centers and the local Market Fresh supermarket are easily accessible. Butler says, “There are a ton of locally owned businesses like the Beverly Hills Grill, which has served the community with American-style food and organic ingredients since 1988.” Here, foodies can enjoy an experience combining that of a traditional diner and an upscale restaurant, with an impressive menu of breakfast classics and gourmet entrees such as pan-roasted salmon and Italian dishes.
