Bonner combines rural scenery with a host of attractions

Located at the edge of the Kansas City metropolitan area, Bonner Springs and its more rural neighbor, Loring, combine small-town tranquility and cultural vibrancy. In between rows of houses reflecting a century of changing architectural styles are a range of attractions, from horse ranches to open-air concert venues and large museums like the National Agricultural Center and Hall of Fame. The community is also 7 miles away from Kansas Speedway and Legends Outlets Mall, meaning locals can enjoy small-town community events or urban excitement with ease. “Bonner is the difference between suburbia and urban living. It’s centered around a main street, it’s got a bandstand, it’s got Thursday evening concerts with an ice cream social in the summer, the ballpark and the football fields are where you see a lot of your family and friends,” says Chad Chadwick, a sales professional with Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate who lives in Bonner Springs.

Bonner Springs has a century’s worth of home styles

While Loring mainly consists of farmland and sparse neighborhoods, Bonner Springs is made up of tidy neighborhoods filled with sidewalks and oak tree shade. Houses in Bonner Springs consist of pastel-colored raised ranches, midcentury split levels and the multi-story family homes from the 1990s. The average price for a home in Bonner-Loring is between $150,000 to $400,000, but some luxury or custom-built properties can range between $700,000 and $900,000. “Bonner was historically an affordable neighborhood, but the market for the last few years has eliminated a lot of inventory and bumped the prices up,” Chadwick says.

Home of the Kansas City Renaissance Festivals

For seven weekends following Labor Day, the area surrounding the open-air Azura Amphitheater off North 130th Street transforms from the rural Midwest into Ye Olde England during the Kansas City Renaissance Festival. The rest of the year, the amphitheater hosts rock concerts and music festivals. Bonner Springs residents also come together during Tiblow Days in August, a three-day carnival honoring the town’s founder, Henry Tiblow.

Interstate 70 creates a quick drive into KC

Downtown Kansas City is 23 miles away and easy to drive to thanks to Bonner Springs’ location along Interstate 70. This major road connects the more rural Bonner-Loring area to the excitement of the region’s metropolitan center. However, its distance from the city means public transportation is hard to find in Bonner Springs, making the area car dependent.
