Walking trails, sports courts and minor league baseball games near Northview
Northview is near some of Bowie’s most popular green spaces. Allen Pond Park has a walking trail where joggers loop around the water and anglers go fishing. Locals can rent paddle boats to spend an afternoon on the pond or eat lunch at a shaded picnic table. Kids run around the playground, practice tricks at the skate park and join pickup games at the basketball court. The park also hosts Bowiefest, a city-wide event that’s always held on the first Saturday in June and has live music, pony rides, local vendors and dance performances. Nearby, there’s also the indoor Bowie Ice Arena, where residents can take skating lessons or join recreational hockey teams. Dog owners take their pets to the Bowie Dog Park, which has a separate off-leash area for small and large dogs.
Less than 3 miles from Northview is the Prince George’s Stadium, where baseball fans go to cheer on the Chesapeake Baysox. “The Baysox are our local minor league baseball team,” says Bill Franklin, a broker with Long & Foster Real Estate who’s served Bowie for decades. “They’ll have fireworks all summer; people love going to their games. There’s always a big turnout.”
