Suburban Neighborhood in Centreville, Virginia
Fairfax County 20120, 20151
Situated at the intersection of Interstate 66 and Route 28 is Sully Station, a large, amenity-rich community in Fairfax County. This sizeable section of northern Centreville is roughly equal parts residential, commercial and parkland, offering a varied and convenient Northern Virginia living experience. And, according to local realtor Natalie McArtor of Samson Properties, the neighborhood is just as friendly as it is well-located. “Sully Station is a very close-knit community,” she says. “The neighbors are really wonderful — they really help you without being too much in your face.”
The portion of Sully Station that’s west of Route 28 mainly contains single-family homes, with a handful of multi-family developments as well. Detached houses in the neighborhood are primarily Colonials from the 1980s to the 2000s, priced between the high $500,000s and just over $1 million. Older, less costly models with aluminum siding, single-car garages and around 2,000 square feet. Newer, red-brick Colonials are available in the northeastern section, offering nearly 5,000-square-foot floor plans and larger lots (and, of course, heftier price tags). Town houses and multi-level condos pop up around Sully Station, most with attached garages, ranging from the $400,000s to around $1 million.
Fairfax County Public Schools accommodates Sully Station students at five schools within a 10-minute drive. Cub Run Elementary School is as little as a three-minute drive for residents and welcomes roughly 550 pre-K through sixth graders. Students west of Route 28 progress to Ormond Stone Middle School for grades seven through eight, then Westfield High School. Here, nearly 2,700 students can flex their creative muscles in photography and publications labs, as well as a TV production studio. Meanwhile, kids in the northeastern section are zoned for Franklin Middle and Chantilly High, which U.S. News & World Report considers a top-15 Virginia high school. All schools serving the community have at least A-minuses from Niche, while Chantilly High has an A-plus.
Eleanor C. Lawrence Park comprises a large chunk of Sully Station, mostly east of Route 28. This 650-acre green space is heavily forested and filled with verdant, tranquil walking trails, including a boardwalk over a lily pad-covered pond. Its Walney Visitor Center, once an 18th-century farmhouse, invites you to explore the history of the property and its former residents. Athletes also have a haven in Lawrence Park, with synthetic turf fields for soccer, baseball and softball — some within walking distance of certain homes. Elsewhere, the Sully Station Community Center welcomes residents to cool off at the pool or work up a sweat on the tennis court.
Shops, restaurants and office buildings fill the northeastern section of Sully Station. Several occupy The Field at Commonwealth a robust shopping center within walking distance of town house residents. Visitors can grab groceries at Wegmans or sit down for a delicious meal at big-name restaurants like Mellow Mushroom and CAVA. Across Route 28, Sully Station Shopping Center offers international eats at spots like Ocha Thai Kitchen and Café. Its trendy, neatly designed interior parallels that of Amor Café & Pastry a few doors down, where you can start the day with a latte or finish it with a handmade sweet.
Sully Station’s proximity to two major Northern Virginia corridors makes it highly convenient for commuters. McArtor says many residents “drive down I-66 to the Vienna Washington Metro station,” which provides about a half-hour train ride to Washington, D.C. And for long-distance travelers, Washington Dulles International Airport lies about 15 minutes up Route 28.
