Ornate homes and shops

Six miles from downtown Cincinnati is Hyde Park, a neighborhood with varied home styles and plenty to see. One of the main features of the neighborhood is Hyde Park Square, a two-block area along Erie Avenue with locally owned boutiques and restaurants and a park in the center. “You get an instant feeling of small-town living close to downtown,” says Derek Tye, a Realtor with EXP Realty with 19 years of experience. “The park surrounds the 100 shops in that area, and there’s plenty of parking close by.” The area is centrally located inside the Interstate 275 loop that encompasses the greater Cincinnati area. While Hype Park Square is the heartbeat of the neighborhood, there are areas that feel distinctly suburban, with homes having private driveways and lawns. There are also rows of hip, new townhomes and condos with plenty of amenities.

Historic homes and new builds

There’s a hodgepodge of home styles in Hyde Park, whether it’s a condominium priced in the low $200,000 range or a multi-million dollar home close to the Ohio River. “With the smaller homes, you can see Craftsman and, close by, there could be a Victorian home that dates back 100 years,” Tye says. “There’s no guidance on how homes are built in that area. You could have a Foursquare right next to a contemporary home.” A single-family home has a median price of over $615,000, while townhomes have a median price of over $800,000. “In that area, you’re seeing a lot of the smaller Cape Cod and ranch-style homes being replaced by million-dollar rebuilds, so you’re not seeing as many on the lower end of the price scale because the land is too valuable now,” says Tye.

Hyde Park Square has it all

With dozens of shopping and dining options, there are plenty of options to choose from. Locals can start the day at Peace, Love and Little Donuts, a gourmet pastry and coffee shop. For diner-style eating, residents can head to the barstools at The Echo. The Echo has countertop service and syrup on the table for a hearty breakfast or lunch. For a special night out, Alfio’s Buon Cibo combines Italian and Argentine cuisines in a trendy and hip atmosphere. For a nightcap, Hyde Park residents visit Unwind Wine Bar for a cocktail on the patio or in the rustic tasting room. Unwind has more than just wines, offering specialty cocktails and small plates. Hyde Park Floral and Garden is a spot where locals can grab flowers or a centerpiece for their table at home, and Hyde Park Gourmet Food and Wine is a specialty wine and cheese shop that has offerings from all over the world. There are plenty of art galleries for collectors as well. For a week’s worth of groceries, Whole Foods and Kroger have locations on Wasson Road.

Hyde Park is a great neighborhood. It is safe and family friendly. There are a variety of things to do in Hyde Park. It is easy to go to Ault Park, eat ice cream at Graeters, and hang out at Hyde Park Square.
