Residents enjoy rural and suburban living east of Flint

The city of Davison, just east of Flint, may be large, but it has the feeling of a small town. “Davison is a family-oriented city, but it’s a nice city for anybody to live in,” says Allan Hobson, a Realtor of RE/MAX Edge with over seven years of experience. Residents take advantage of the area’s proximity to Flint, Saginaw and Detroit, but also the addition of new subdivisions with rural and in-town housing. With green parks and playful gathering spaces outside, lively Main Street dining, and a highly rated school district, Davison’s mix of rural and suburban charm makes it a great place to call home.

New subdivisions and rural ranch homes in Davison

“There’s a mixture of old and new houses in the area, but you’re going to mostly see ranch-style houses,” Hobson says. New subdivisions popping up around town include contemporary ranch homes with vinyl and brickwork exteriors that will often have three-car garages and finished basements. Two-story contemporary Craftsman residences costing around $350,000 have large windows and sit on manicured lawns or sandy construction zones. Established neighborhoods that include Colonial-inspired houses are “mostly from the 1960s,” Hobson says, with large front yards and two-car garages. Most are priced between $220,000 and $300,000. For those looking for generous acreage, rural ranch homes and modern farmhouses are tucked between soybean and corn fields and often cost around $250,000.

Davison Community School District educational programs

Because the Davison Community School district is in the top 10 best districts in the Flint Area, “you’ll find a lot of people moving here just for the schools,” Hobson says. Davison students can first attend Hill Elementary School for kindergarten through fourth grade. They then move on to Hahn Intermediate School for fifth and sixth grade. Seventh and eighth grade are taught at Davison Middle School, which offers elective classes such as Intro to Theater and Performance, a Technology and Literacy Lab, and Art and Drawing. All three schools receive a B-plus on Niche. Davison High School, with a B-minus, provides Davison Early College and Career & Technical Education programs. Medical students from all over Michigan often study at the Flint branch of the University of Michigan, which is just 11 miles west of Davison.

Golf, splash and play at Davison parks and country clubs

“There’s a diverse number of things to do in Davison,” Hobson says. “We’ve got dog parks, farmers markets, nature trails, golf courses… there’s always something for everybody.” Davison’s Lake Callis Recreation Complex is a huge green space with a playground, splash pad and the Lake Callis beach for cooling off during humid Michigan summer days. Jack N. Abernathy Regional Park’s castle-themed playground is a staple for many local families who want to spend a day outside under the trees, and casual games of volleyball, tennis, and basketball are played right next to the playground. Abernathy Park also has an outdoor sports complex for local baseball leagues and games, and skaters can show off their moves on a few wooden skate ramps nearby. Members of the Davison Country Club can not only tee up at the beautiful 18-hole course but also enjoy club activities, from court sports to children’s day camps. Other golf courses include the Sugarbush Golf Club and the Copper Ridge Golf Club, both with challenging courses and club amenities.

Main Street sips and eats at local Davison businesses

Davison’s Main Street greets locals with little shops and restaurants in classic buildings. Davison Home Bakery offers fresh bread and doughnuts, and don’t miss out on their Paczki in February. They also have a “Names of the Day” series where they pick random names each day. Guests with those names who come in can get a free donut. Ohio favorite Whitey’s made its way north of the border with a Davison location, serving fish and chips, fresh burgers and their famous chili. The Davison Hotel gastropub has an envious beer selection, and The Agitated Grape Bar & Bistro serves exclusively Michigan wines. Try their famous mac-n-cheese in a sizzling cast iron bowl, or their unique cocktails. Groceries and home essentials are found at the nearest Meijer, about 3 miles west on Lapeer Road.
