Living in Globeville, a community set on growth
If Denver’s Globeville neighborhood had a theme song, it would probably be Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive.” Built by Eastern European immigrants in the late 1800s and shaken by a radical transformation during the construction of Interstates 70 and 25 in the 1960s, Globeville has seen its fair share of housing displacement and abandonment over its 130-year history. Many Denverites thought the area would never recover from the construction of the “Mousetrap,” the local moniker for the bustling highway intersection. But there are few things stronger than a devoted and caring community, and the residents of Globeville have continued to find ways to survive and grow in the decades since, bringing their small pocket of Denver out of the Mousetrap’s shadow. "Today, Globeville is a great neighborhood for investors," says Michelle Glass, a real estate broker who has sold homes with Keller Williams since 2012. "With the city planning to invest more money in the community in the near future and a convenient location near major interstates, homebuyers can find affordable homes in the neighborhood and prepare for their values to rise quickly."

Pitching in with the Globeville Community
Each day, thousands pass straight over Globeville on their commute to the city, with no idea of the strong community that exists below the overpass. But the people of Globeville are working hard to change that perception by reclaiming the area’s image with colorful murals, healing residents through free food programs and breaking cycles of economic disadvantages with unique apprenticeship opportunities. At Globeville Riverfront Arts Center, residents will find more than 80 visual artists creating new pieces in their individual workspaces. The 1,500-square-foot gallery is open to the public on the first Friday of every month, and annual events like the Out There Art Fest bring the community together to celebrate creativity each summer. Local organizations like the Birdseed Collective have also helped to bring youth programs, healthy food distribution and beautification projects to the neighborhood. Working out of the Globeville Center, the Birdseed Collective also puts together community events like the Globeville Block Party and the Globeville Summer Concert Series.

Historic finds and low price points north of Denver
Built as early as 1890, homebuyers can find many well-kept historic homes in the neighborhood. "What's cool about Globeville is that no two homes look the same,” Glass says. “These are older homes with lots of character." Featuring charming details from the early 20th century like decorative trim and sloping eves, homes are known for their quality construction. Ranging from one and two-bedroom cottages to larger traditional homes and bungalows, most homes sell from as low as $300,000 up to $550,000. Homes in need of updates are also available for those looking for lower price points. “Many of the homes could use a lot of work,” says Sean Murphy, team leader of the Moxie Denver team. "That’s where you get lower budget buyers who are willing to do that work, who are willing to help the neighborhood heal.” Globeville receives a 5 out of 10 CAP Index Crime Score, which is slightly higher than the national average of 4. This score is driven by high property crime, with a 7 out of 10 for motor vehicle theft.
