Parks in the area offer plenty of activities for families, including watching a ball game at the James W. Cownie Baseball Park. Locals can access the Carl Voss trail from the park, which takes them into Downtown Des Moines. “So many activities are downtown,” Tran says. Pioneer Park features late 20th century ranch styles
Sidewalks line the roads and cul-de-sacs of this residential neighborhood. Single-family properties built in the late 20th century sit on manicured, grassy lawns, sometimes accented with tall trees. Ranch-style homes are common, as are split-levels, split-foyers and three and four-bedroom bilevels. “It’s a very affordable area,” Tran says. Prices typically fall between $175,000 and $250,000, although for $150,000, homebuyers can find a two-bedroom duplex in a ranch style or bilevel house.
Pioneer Park provides all of the suburban amenities residents could want.

While there, they can get dinner at Señor Tequila Mexican Cuisine & Tequila Bar, which serves homestyle Mexican food and offers nearly 50 tequilas for specialty margaritas. More shopping and dining options, including Buffalo Wild Wings and other fast and casual restaurants, can be found along U.S. Route 69. People can also drive downtown and try one of the many restaurants and cafes, including St. Kilda Cafe & Bakery, which features an Australian-style breakfast and lunch menu. Walmart and Home Depot are about 3 miles away, while Target is about a 4-mile drive.

Downtown Des Moines hosts several events throughout the year, from Out to Lunch, a summer celebration with live music, food trucks and vendors, to cultural festivals, including the CelebrAsian festival, which showcases food and entertainment from the Asian cultures that live in Iowa. “I actively participated when I lived there,” Tran says. The neighborhood is also about 5 miles from the Iowa State Fair, the largest annual event in the state, and features music, rides and food.

It also features Ta Kraw courts, where people can play sepak takraw, a sport similar to volleyball. Besides having eight baseball diamonds, the James W. Pioneer Park storm preparedness
The greater Des Moines area, including Pioneer Park, is at a higher risk during severe weather than the surrounding counties, especially during tornados and strong winds, because it has less natural resistance to wind. Residents should prepare by identifying safe zones in their homes and ensuring they have a stocked emergency kit. The Iowa Methodist Medical Center is about 4 miles away and is one of two Level I Trauma Centers in the state.

I love shoping locally. The locat grocery stores and farmers markets are great at providing us with fresh produce and friendly faces. I love buying unique clothes from the smaller more local stores because they are usually cheeper and way better looking than the normal stuff you would get at the regular department stores.
