Luxury homes, highways and industry in East El Paso
El Paso’s Upper Valley and West Side have built longstanding reputations around their desirable real estate. But Ranchos Del Sol, an East Side community, proves that residents don’t have to leave the 79936 zip code in search of luxury. Stylish homes occupy park-like grounds with ornamental statues, fountains and gazebos, with looping roads and cul-de-sacs giving the area an air of exclusivity. “One area has an HOA that pays for trees and plants in the median, really nice landscaping,” says Patrick Tuttle, broker and owner of Coldwell Banker Heritage and host of YouTube’s The Best Side of El Paso. “And you’ve got wider streets with less traffic. There’s only one way in and one way out; you don’t go to Ranchos Del Sol unless you live there or you’re an Uber driver.”
A surfeit of warehouses and manufacturing sits on the eastern edge, and the neighborhood benefits from direct access to two major highways. Texas State Highway 375, which forms a ring around the city known as the 375 Loop, connects to Interstate 10 in the neighborhood’s southeastern corner. “Once you get to the Loop, you’re gonna be in pretty good shape to go anywhere in the city,” says Charlie Clark, broker and owner of Century 21 Clark Brothers.

Spanish Colonial Revival homes and decorative stone walls
A stroll along Ranchos del Sol’s well-maintained sidewalks leads past Spanish Colonial Revival homes with flat barrel-tile roofs, arched windows and entryways, and tan stucco walls. Most date to the 1990s and early 2000s, with paved patios or rock gardens in pale terra-cotta shades. Decorative stone and brick walls lend texture — and, in some cases, privacy — to properties measuring around 6,000 to 7,000 square feet. Prices are a tad high by El Paso standards, starting around $275,000 to $350,000 for a 3- to 4-bedroom home. Larger builds with amenities like private in-ground pools, oversized lots and separate guest houses are priced at $600,000 to $900,000.
Homes often feature modern amenities with a mix of southwestern and contemporary style.
Compared to larger cities in Texas, El Paso offers relatively affordable housing.

Burritos and a brown bear at Los Corajudos del Gordo
Warehouses, manufacturing facilities and auto parts stores crowd the landscape in the eastern section of the neighborhood near the Texas 375 Loop. This is also where residents find Tea2Go, a modern café specializing in energy drinks and loose-leaf teas. Inside the local chain Los Corajudos del Gordo (“The Courageous Fat Man”), diners enjoy burritos and fajitas in the company of a life-sized brown bear mount. Viva Café on Rojas Drive is a cash-only casual Mexican joint that offers all-you-can-eat menudo every Saturday. A short distance away in the Stone Ridge neighborhood, shopping centers offer more dining and retail options, including Food King supermarket.
With over 35 locations across Texas, Tea2Go is a staple among El Paso residents.

Ranchos Del Sol Park and playground
The playground at Ranchos Del Sol Park sits in a shaded pavilion between two picnic gazebos. With multiple slides, monkey bars and climbing structures, it’s larger than the play areas in many nearby parks. An exercise trail encircles the perimeter, passing basketball courts and a soccer field. McCarthy Park consists primarily of a swing set surrounded by an open grassy field, but it’s conveniently located for residents living on the neighborhood’s western side.

Joe Battle Boulevard and the Texas 375 Loop
Ranchos del Sol is 18 miles from downtown El Paso and 11 miles from El Paso International Airport. That means it’s closer to the Mexican border city of Ciudad Juárez, 7 miles away, than to its own city center. The Texas 375 Loop skims the neighborhood’s eastern edge, parallel to Joe Battle Boulevard, where buses on Sun Metro’s Route 74 make several stops. The route also stops on Rojas Drive and offers access to University Medical Center East and Americas High School, both about 2 miles away. Other stops along Route 74 include the Texas Department of Human Services and the Social Security Administration.

Things to consider
Because El Paso is located on the U.S.-Mexico border, long lines of idling traffic are standard. This results in poor air quality for the city, especially in neighborhoods that sit right on the border. While Ranchos Del Sol is several miles from the nearest border crossing, potential buyers should take note of the risk.
