Stadium Heights
The Horsetooth Reservoir and surrounding natural areas
The Horsetooth Reservoir was formed in 1949 with the completion of four dams used to divert water from the Colorado Western Slope to be used for the area’s agricultural lands and drinking water for Fort Collins. Today, the reservoir is one of the most popular recreation areas in the city. “It gets pretty busy in the summer,” says Mike Sibbald, a local Realtor with Elevations Real Estate. “The area is known for its cliff jumping sites. It’s popular among Fort Collins residents, but people also travel from out of town for day and weekend trips. The campsites fill up quickly in the summer.” On the water, visitors can be found fishing, paddle boarding, swimming and tubing, while the surrounding lands have campsites, rock climbing spots and over 20 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails. The 18-hole Aggie Greens Disc Golf Course lies between Stadium Heights and the reservoir on Dixon Canyon Road. Spring Canyon Park has sports facilities for soccer, tennis, baseball, basketball and sand volleyball. Parents can bring their kids to use the large playground and splash pad, while dog owners can bring their companions to the 2-acre enclosed dog park. The park also marks the beginning of the Spring Creek Trail, a 9-mile paved path that connects city parks and ends across town in the Riverbend Ponds Natural Area.
