Suburban Neighborhood in Fort Worth, Texas
Tarrant County 76164
Looking to settle down without giving up the convenience of city living? The Northside neighborhood of Fort Worth brings together the best of both worlds. “It still has a hometown feel to it,” says local Realtor Maria Montes with Rendon Realty. “It’s not super industrial or super modern like Dallas just yet. You’ve got the historic Stockyards nearby which are five minutes away. And you kind of got the small-town feel with all of the elements of the big city.” With popular attractions like the Stockyards and Panther Island Music Pavilion just a short drive away, you can easily spend your nights and weekends exploring all the excitement that Fort Worth has to offer. You’ll also be just minutes away from shopping and dining desinations like West 7th Street or downtown Fort Worth.
When you’re not out exploring the nearby attractions, you’ll be spending time at home in the neighborhood, which offers a wide mix of housing styles sure to fit any desire and budget. “You can find some Craftsman. Northside has really kind of got some traditional homes,” Montes says. “A lot of them were built in the 1900s, so you’ve got some wrap-around porches, you’ve got a lot of character, you’ve got a lot of built-in shelving in these homes, big windows.” In addition to the traditional Craftsman homes that are in the neighborhood, there is some new construction happening throughout the area. You can easily find new one-story homes with brick and stone exteriors and built-in garages. Despite the new development, Montes says the neighborhood is keeping its historic charm. Homes in Northside are about in line or somewhat cheaper than the median home price in all of Fort Worth. Some homes are listed for $350,000 to $375,000, but you can also find homes in the $200,000 range.
Students in Northside will have a quick commute to school in the mornings as there are several public schools throughout the neighborhood. Students might attend either Sam Rosen Elementary School, Elder Middle School and North Side High School. North Side High traces its roots back to 1884, when the community – then known as Marine – needed a schoolhouse. The original school building is now located in Log Cabin Village, a collection of historic buildings that have been restored in the city. North Side has been in its current location since 1937. The modern Art Deco building has Greek and Roman-inspired features such as columns and urns. The school is known for its mariachi band, which won the national championship in Los Angeles in 2017, and has performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
Several parks in the neighborhood offer plenty of room to get outside and enjoy some recreation. Buck Sansom Park has two softball fields and an open field that can be used for soccer games. The park has access to the Trinity Trail system, giving residents a scenic space for a stroll. Head to Marine Park for a game of basketball or tennis or test your skills oat the skate park. Marine Park is also home to an aquatic center with a lap pool and playground, making it a popular place to spend time during the summer.
For a good meal, check out Riscky’s BAR-B-Q on Azle Avenue. This local restaurant has been around since 1927, serving smoked meats and authentic Texas barbecue to the community. Known for their brisket and ribs, locals say the portions are large and will leave you feeling full after your meal. For all of your grocery and errands needs, you can head to the Walmart Supercenter just across Jacksboro Highway. And with the Highway and Interstate 820 bordering the neighborhood, you’ll have a quick trip anywhere you need to go throughout the Metroplex.
