A mere 45 miles from a major metropolis, you will find a community called Taskers Chance. Located in West Frederick, Maryland, breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains surround this subdivision near Washington, DC. With downtown Frederick two miles away, entertainment and outdoor activities are plentiful.

As you walk along the winding roads, you will notice a variety of home styles, ranging from traditional to Craftsman-style homes. Home prices depend on whether you want a newly built single-family home, a town house, or a condominium. A typical two-bed, two-bath condo may range between the mid $100,000s to the mid $200,000s. An older, traditional single-family four-bed, two-bath may start in the $400,000s, while a new craftsman style build may begin in the mid $600,000s. With some modest lot sizes under half an acre, there is still enough room for kids to run around in the backyard.

School-aged children in the area can attend Waverley Elementary School and Monocacy Middle School. “The schools are great and close to Montgomery County without county prices,” says Lily Vallario, Realtor with EXP Realty. Governor Thomas Johnson High School received a B+ rating on Niche and has been awarded the National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence award. This award is based on overall academic excellence or closing achievement gaps among students. Frederick County students with special needs may also attend the Rock Creek School, which provides individualized learning programs for children ages three through 21.

Locals of any age can make their way to Willowdale Park to have some fun. Amenities include walking trails, basketball courts, baseball diamonds, and a playground for youngsters. You may find people jogging or biking along Rock Creek Trail, a two-mile path that extends from Fredericktowne Mall, winds through Willowdale and ends at Baker Park in downtown Frederick. Immerse yourself in nature by dipping your toes in the creek or admiring the blue skies and green grass. You can also cheer on the kids as you glimpse the Frederick Little League practicing along the tree-lined field.

Residents have a quick drive to the Golden Mile shopping center for shopping and dining. Here, you should be able to complete your errands in one trip. On Saturday mornings, enjoy the local Frederick farmers market. Nearby grocery stores include H-mart, Giant Eagle, Asian Super Market, and Lidl. With a range of pharmacies, hair salons, and auto shops, you don’t have to travel far to check those errands off your to-do list.

For authentic oven-baked pizza, take a stroll down to Il Forno Pizzeria. Customers rave about their wings and funnel cake fries. Head out to Casa Rico on Tuesdays for some tacos and ice-cold margaritas. With light, crispy tortilla chips and chunky salsa with the slightest kick, this may be your new favorite dinner spot. When date night comes around, immerse yourself in a cinematic experience at the Warehouse Cinemas. Sit back in the reclining, heated chairs as you sip on a cocktail and enjoy the show.

Those looking for a quiet town within reasonable commuting distance from major cities will enjoy easy access to US Route 40 and US Route 15. Although Taskers Chance is a heavily car-dependent area, it is easy to hop on multiple bus lines, with Line 51 running every 30 minutes. “The location is great for commuters. Even though it’s tucked away in a nice, quiet community neighborhood, it is still close to everything. Shops. Restaurants. Entertainment,” says Vallario. If you want to live close to our nation’s capital but still have easy access to mountain views and hiking trails, Taskers Chance may be for you.
