Family-friendly, suburban living in Chicago's northern suburbs
Known as "one of the quietest suburbs of northern Chicago," The Willows is a peaceful, suburban retreat for those looking to escape busier areas of the city, says Steve Goodman, a local real estate Broker who grew up in the neighborhood and continues to sell homes in the area. First built in the 1960s and 70s, this neighborhood tucked along the tranquil streets of Glenview has a "perfect mix" of a golf course, shopping destinations, and highly-rated schools all within five minutes of the neighborhood. “There’s very little commercial here,” says Steve Goodman, adding that "It really creates a tight-knit, neighborly feel where you often see neighbors going on walks with each other or kids playing together in their yards." Despite The Willows' sense of suburban peace and quiet, residents aren't stranded here. Smooth roads and sidewalks encourage residents to walk throughout the neighborhood and many local services and attractions are within biking distance, including the local Metra station. With Interstate 294 near the western edge of the neighborhood and Chicago Executive Airport being just a mere 10-minute drive away, residents of The Willows are still well-connected with the greater Chicago area. Just 25 miles from downtown Chicago, The Willows is a "mature, well-kept neighborhood that's home to a diverse, welcoming group of people," says Goodman.

Glenview homes with diverse styles and price points
With an average sales price of about $750,000, homes in The Willows sell for almost $60,000 more on average than those in the surrounding area of Glenview and are also significantly more expensive than the national average. With this raise in price, however, comes a notable increase in home size and yard space. Tall, mature trees, well-connected sidewalks and gently curving streets also help to maintain the peaceful vibe of The Willows. Sitting astride closely mowed lawns, many homes in the neighborhood were built in the early 1970s and feature garages at the front of the house, unique mansard roofs, and original brick construction, though newer construction is also common. Walking through The Willows, homebuyers can find anything from three-bedroom, traditional homes selling for as low as $460,000 to larger, five and six-bedroom builds that feature classical revival and prairie-influenced architecture. Selling for up to a million dollars, these homes have an added sense of architectural flair—they’re contemporary in style, with stone accents and large windows that let in an abundance of natural light.

Because the schools are spread out across the neighborhood, some students are within walking or biking distance, while others are more likely to take the bus or be driven. Major additions and renovations to the school were completed during the 2000s, ranging from a new food court and fitness center to more classrooms and an expanded faculty lounge. Glenbrook South consistently ranks highly not only in academic and athletic performance but also in creative extracurriculars. In 2008, its music program helped the school be named a National Grammy Signature School. The school is also known for having several famous alumni, including Eric Gilliand, who has produced sitcoms based on suburban Chicago families, from “Roseanne” to “My Boys.”
