Lively, growing suburb 25 miles northwest of Atlanta

From its humble beginnings in the 1800s as a railroad and mill town, Hiram has become an active community in Paulding County, one of the fastest growing in the United States, located about 25 miles northwest of Atlanta. “This area continues to grow as you have more people looking to get out of the city,” says Clay Thomas, Hiram resident and Realtor with Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate | Metro Brokers. “The downtown area is busy, and it drives that community aspect. You’re close to shopping, but Hiram still has that rural feel.

New traditional homes in subdivisions

Homes in Hiram primarily feature spacious, multi-level new traditional homes and town houses built in the last 20 years, with some subdivisions popping up even more recently. A three-bedroom, new traditional style home in a Hiram subdivision typically costs just under $300,000. Homes in neighborhoods are shaded by trees, offering some privacy, and lawns feature green grass and minimal landscaping. Some older homes, primarily ranches built in the 1970s and 80s, sit on larger lots and sell in the mid-$200,000s. “The size of the lots here helps. You get more land, and you have space but also a chance to renovate some of the property’s lower [basement] levels,” says Thomas.

The park has a duck pond encircled by walking trails, a jungle gym with canopy umbrellas to keep the plastic cool in the summer and a covered picnic area with grills. Hiram Trailhead, part of the 61-mile Silver Comet Trail spanning from Smyrna to the Alabama State Line, is also nearby. Walkers and bikers can travel across the entire town of Hiram on this portion of the trail, and the trailhead itself has a small playground and dog park.

Shopping and dining off Highway 278 and downtown

Along US Highway 278, residents can find Hiram Crossing and Hiram Pavillion shopping centers with chain restaurants like Buffalo Wild Wings and Texas Roadhouse and big-box stores like Walmart and Target. For date night, locals enjoy Greek and Italian food at The Olive Tree downtown. The restaurant’s exposed brick and large windows create a unique and rustic atmosphere for diners. Another staple in town is Happy Hawg BBQ, a local barbecue joint off Highway 278 serving Southern classics like pulled pork sandwiches and Brunswick stew.
