The Moores Mill Neighborhood offers residents quick access to downtown Huntsville Alabama.
Rural living 10 miles outside downtown Huntsville
Less than 10 miles north of Huntsville, Moores Mill is a growing residential corridor offering a more pastoral lifestyle in a peaceful with larger lots in contrast to downtown Huntsville. Tucked between a busy city connector and the Brier Fork Flint River Moores Mill is named after the road bearing its name that slices through town, providing access to an expanding number of shops and restaurants. “You can get just a few miles outside of town while still only being a 20 minute drive away from everything,” says Trent Morris, a Realtor with Keller Williams. “They've also done some really nice development out there. They’ve built several shopping centers and restaurants and stuff out on Winchester Road which has made that area just really delightful to be in.” A bit closer to the action than New Market or Meridianville, Moores Mill maintains much of the old town Alabama feel with some open agrarian spaces and more room to breathe.
Kroger is one of three grocery options for the residents of the Moores Mill Neighborhood.
Winchester Road Corridor
On the southern end of Moores Mill, Winchester Plaza is the go-to location for most shopping needs anchored by Publix and a handful of shops and restaurants. Further down on Winchester Kroger, Aldi and Walmart are also available. Flint River Coffee Company’s old, converted farmhouse is a cozy spot to enjoy a morning pick-me-up, and Supper Heroes is a fun, casual place to enjoy a family meal.
New Traditional style homes are one of several styles available in the Moores Mill Neighborhood.
Classic Ranch-style homes and new builds
Homes in Moores Mill are a mix of older Ranch-style homes and new construction driven by the growing demand for housing in Huntsville. “The Huntsville metropolitan area is seeing so much growth right now that a lot of people are seeing advantageous opportunities a little bit outside of town,” Morris says. “That specific area has always been great, but before it was kind of like an uncovered gem if you will, and now with more people moving here, other people are also attracted to the bang for your buck.” Moores Mill’s ranch-style homes date from the 60s through the '90s up to brand new construction. Visitors will also find stately Colonials with dormer windows and split-level homes, all spaced farther apart, allowing for sizeable yard space and privacy. The Brier Fork Flint River flows along the northeast, feeding into small pockets of water. Some houses near the river have backyard water views, while others overlook wide-open open fields. Most homes in Moores Mill sell for between $250,000 and $400,000 with a few outliers on either end.
Outdoor fun on the river and trails
The Flint River flows south down from Tennessee and is a popular location for both boating and fishing. “It’s a very popular activity for all kinds of people. I remember canoeing as a kid with my family. But also, later in life, going fishing with buddies back there and walking the trail looking for deer and stuff like that,” Morris adds. There are multiple outfitters for paddling excursions along the river, which is also known for one of the best locations for bass fishing. Maplewood Park is the go-to for an afternoon outdoors, where Moores Mill residents can let the kids hang out at the playground or take the dogs for a walk around the paved pathway. The Hump Creek Swimming Hole is a popular destination on warm, sunny days. Visitors can slide the kayak in for a tour of the wetlands or take a dip from the rocky beaches.
Top rated Madison County Schools
Students in Moores Mill attend Madison County, rated an A-minus overall on Niche. “The schools out there have always been good, but they have steadily increased to where now many of those, we used to call them county schools, surpass almost all of Huntsville City Schools, Morris say. “We have tons of families that move out there just for that specific reason, and you can’t blame them. They can get a bigger house for less money in a better school zone. So that 20-minute drive to work is a no-brainer for those people.” Many kids start at Mt. Carmel Elementary School, rated A-minus, moving onto Riverton Intermediate School, Buckhorn Middle School, and Buckhorn High School, all rated a B-plus or better. Buckhorn High is an Alabama and MCSS Purple Star School, celebrating military recognition events and supporting military families through the Student 2 Student program, a student-led support organization.
I-565 corridor connects to downtown Huntsville
Moores Mill is a mile or two from Interstate 565, routing drivers southwest into downtown and beyond. Most locals are drivers, as public transit options are limited. Huntsville International Airport is 15 miles away.
