Small-town feel in Edgewood Park

Edgewood Park sits on the edge of Interstate 195, west of Howell Township. It’s a small suburban area with winding streets, though, protecting it from traffic. This part of Howell isn’t pure countryside, and yet shades of a rural atmosphere shine through. It’s a place for quieter lifestyles. “You’ll see homes with acre-sized yards,” says Viviana Mejia, a Realtor with Keller Williams. There’s a bit of a small-town feel to this neighborhood, with residential properties mixed in with schools, parks, a fire station and even a few shops. Edgewood Park is a self-contained bubble of sorts. “A lot of people will just get stuff delivered to their door,” says Allie Farinhas, a Realtor with Re/Max Innovation. “We’ve seen a lot more people in this area working from home over the past few years.”

Playing ball at Camp Joy

Camp Joy is the spot for athletic recreation. It has basketball courts, three ballfields and a playground. But for a stroll through nature, Aldrich Lake Park next door is a good option. It contains two trails, including a 5-mile loop that hikers can take around the water. But one of the ideal aspects of Edgewood Park is that it’s a short driving distance from some of New Jersey’s most well-known spots. “Cape May, Atlantic City, Asbury Park, Pier Village,” says Farinhas. “It’s all within reach. Lots of people like to go surfing or parasailing.”

A 70-mile commute from New York City

With residents having Interstate 195 as part of their neighborhood, it’s easy to make the 70-mile trek to New York City. Commuters can quickly merge onto the Garden State Parkway and arrive in Manhattan in about 90 minutes. Larsen Road is the main local thoroughfare running east-west in Edgewood Park, fed by smaller streets. There are no bus stops here, but the community prides itself on maintaining a calm suburban environment. “Parents like that the residential parts are walkable,” says Farinhas.
