A community built to preserve open spaces
In the 1960s, Dr. H. Lewis Batts Jr. and businessman Burton H. Upjohn envisioned an environmentally friendly community. They purchased 288 acres of land with streams, lakes, and forests and designed a neighborhood that blended seamlessly with its natural surroundings. This partnership resulted in Parkview Hills, a community where environmental stewardship and thoughtful planning set a high standard that continues to shape the neighborhood. Today, this area boasts a tight-knit community with access to water on Lake Hill N’ Brook, upscale dining, parks, and quality education. The Parkview Hills Club is known for its events that bring neighbors together.

Housing options are limited in this tight-knit community
Parkview Hills was designed to preserve over 100 acres of open space to protect nature. “It is a pretty community. It’s very scenic. There are a lot of mature trees,” says Realtor Ben Barber of Keller Williams Realty - Kalamazoo Market Center. The area offers a diverse range of housing options, although there are few on the market, and homes are quickly bought, averaging 16 days on the market. Condominiums start at $190,000, with those near beach boat ramps and indoor pools costing around $287,000, while four-bedroom condos can reach $346,000. Townhomes, beginning at $182,079, include amenities like pools, lakes, saunas, and gyms. Ranch-style homes start at $220,000 with front porches and paved walkways. Higher-end ranch homes on large plots with front yards and in-ground pools can cost up to $441,000, featuring courtyards and four bedrooms. Cape Cod homes are priced around $595,000, while contemporary homes surrounded by trees and ponds are approximately $430,000. The median home price is $275,000. The CAP Crime Score in the neighborhood is four, which matches the national average. “We get what’s called lake-effect snow because of how close we are to Lake Michigan,” says Barber. “When we get big snowstorms, the accumulation can be more than in other parts of Michigan because of our proximity to the lake.”
