Fair Oaks Farm and Newton County’s Pun’kin Vine Fair
Fair Oaks Farm in Newton County is a functioning farm offering educational programs, interactive exhibits, event spaces and dining. Fair Oaks Farms also sponsors Newton County's Pun'kin Vine Fair, which has country music concerts, a pageant, demolition derbies, an antique tractor parade and more each year in July. Roselawn has several campgrounds, including the family-friendly Oak Lake RV Resort. "It's like a home away from home," says the resort's general manager Carmony. Roselawn also has two adult-only clothing-optional camps, Ponderosa Sun Club and Sun Aura Resort.

Ranches, bi-levels and farmhouses on large tracks of land
"Prices for homes and the taxes are still fairly reasonable in Newton County. If you go across the county line to Jasper, the taxes go way up. But it's still not Illinois taxes," Carmony says. Ranch-style homes are the most popular in the area, though it's also possible to find bi-levels, split levels, and farmhouses on large tracts of farmland. Manufactured and ranch-style homes begin in the mid-$100,000s, while farmhouse-style homes reach the low-$300,000s. Most homes in the area were built before the 1980s, with some homes dating back to the 1800s, but there are some newer developments as well. Recent developments include Deer Ridge Estates in Lake Village, which features two-story, Craftsmen-inspired homes starting at just under $400,000.

Village parks and Willow Slough Fish and Wildlife Area
In addition to its campgrounds, Newton County has several village parks and locales for wildlife lovers. Residents can stroll around Cast Park's pond in Kentland or play on the baseball field and playgrounds next to the Lake Village Community Center. At the Willow Slough Fish and Wildlife Area, visitors launch their boats and cast a line on J.C. Murphy Lake or hunt for deer, waterfowl and turkey on almost 10,000 acres of woodland. The reserve has over a dozen miles of hiking trails around the lake and forested areas.

Career licenses at North Newton Junior-Senior High

Downtown Chicago is about 65 miles from Roselawn and is accessible by car via Interstates 65 and 90. "A lot of people who live in this area like going to Chicago for activities without having to live in it," says Carmony.
