Quintessential suburban living in the East Bay
Norman Rockwell would love Burton Valley. “It’s an idyllic family community that revolves around its elementary school. Families often come for the school and stay for themselves,” says Dana Green, a Realtor with Compass who grew up in the East Bay community. “We call it a cup-of-sugar neighborhood, where you can always borrow a cup of sugar from your neighbors. There are lemonade stands on the weekends. People are always out and about. It’s just a very friendly place.”
The neighborhood is just 2 miles from Downtown Lafayette, a popular shopping and dining destination that’s accessible via the Lafayette-Moraga Regional Trail. “You can ride your bike right into downtown. You’ll see runners and moms pushing strollers,” says Realtor Soraya Golesorkhi of Coldwell Banker, a longtime area resident. “It’s kind of a Leave-It-To-Beaver neighborhood. It’s very desirable.”

Community parks, a rail trail and a neighborhood swim club
Burton Valley offers plenty in the way of outdoor recreation. “The amenities within the neighborhood are great,” says Green. “There’s a tennis club, a swim club, a community center, a community park. There are hiking trails all around. There’s also a paved path that was built along old railroad tracks from years ago that you can use for walking and riding your bike.” Most of the amenities are concentrated in and around Lafayette Community Park, a sprawling green space that is home to Lafayette Little League and provides facilities for an array of additional activities, including soccer and hockey at the skating rink adjacent to the community center. Las Trampas Creek runs through the park, providing a serene setting for those who just want to relax amid the natural landscape. The Lafayette-Moraga Regional Trail nearby is a popular spot for walkers, cyclists and equestrians. Measuring almost 8 miles, it was one of the state’s first rail-trails. The nearby Ranchos Colorados Swim & Tennis Club has served Lafayette and surrounding areas since 1960.
