Just south of the Grand River, the quiet, residential community of Moores Park is one of Lansing’s most well-established neighborhoods — and its riverfront location, affordable housing and proximity to downtown and other popular neighborhoods like REO Town make it popular among families and residents of all ages. “The Moores Park area is absolutely beautiful, as it winds along the Grand River, with stunning views along the Lansing River Trail,” says Greater Lansing area resident Missy Lord, a Realtor with Re/Max. The neighborhood has a strong sense of community, with residents and local groups focused on maintaining the integrity of the well-loved neighborhood through revitalization and public outreach efforts — including a fundraising and awareness campaign to help restore the historic public pool, and the addition of a community garden where residents can grow fresh fruits and vegetables and come together with their neighbors.

Early 20th-century builds at a variety of price points are popular for first-time buyers
Homes in Moores Park date back to the early 20th century, and buyers can find American Foursquares, Tudor Revivals, Craftsman homes and other bungalows with large front porches, as well as modest ranch-style and two-story homes with traditional architecture. “There are a variety of price points in this neighborhood, allowing for all different levels of budgets for home buyers,” Lord says. Given the well-established neighborhood's age, many of the oldest properties need renovation, though many are also meticulously maintained and have undergone restoration over the years. “Prices in the area will go up to $250,000,” says area resident Brian Ozbun, a Realtor with Bellabay Realty, LLC, though fixer-upper properties in need of work can be found for as low as $50,000. “It just depends on the street and the home, there are pockets that are really desirable with renovated homes.”
The neighborhood’s namesake park and historic pool has drawn area families for over a century
The neighborhood’s namesake Moores Park is popular among residents from all parts of Lansing — mostly because of the large community pool. The famous J.H. Moores Memorial Natatorium, known among locals as simply the Moores Park Pool, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and has been providing generations of Lansing families with summertime fun and nostalgia for over 100 years. While the pool closed for several years in 2019 due to mounting necessary repairs compounded with budget challenges, a recent $6.2 million renovation was recently approved by the state, with plans to re-open it to the public soon. Moores Park is also the start of the Lansing River Trail, which spans over 20 miles of the Greater Lansing area along the Grand River, allowing residents to explore by bicycle or on foot. The park also houses a basketball court and tennis courts and is a popular spot for fishing on the Grand River.
Easy access to all that Michigan’s capital city has to offer
Moores Park is serviced by the Capital Area Transit Authority bus, connecting residents to stops throughout Greater Lansing. The neighborhood is just a few blocks west of Cedar Street and is bordered to the west by Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard — two of Lansing’s main routes throughout the city. Moores Park is also bordered to the east by Washington Avenue, providing residents with easy and direct access to downtown just north. For air travel, the Capital Region International Airport is roughly 7 miles north. When in need of emergency or specialized medical attention, Sparrow Hospital is roughly 3 miles northeast, with McLaren Greater Lansing Hospital roughly 4 miles southeast.

Multiple education pathways in the Lansing School District
Students in Moores Park have a variety of school pathways they can take in the Lansing School District. They may attend Lewton School from prekindergarten through eighth grade — a Spanish immersion and global studies magnet school that earns a C-rating from Niche. From there, they can move on to the C-plus-rated J.W. Sexton High School, a magnet school with a STEM-based curriculum. Students can also enroll in the school’s early college program, which enables them to graduate with an associate degree from Davenport University alongside their high school diploma.
Popular dining and retail options are a stone’s throw away in REO Town
Grocery shopping can be found just south of the neighborhood at Great Giant Supermarket and Kroger, or a few miles north at Capital City Market — a first-of-its-kind grocery concept designed to bring fresh, affordable produce and other local and artisan groceries to community members. For retail shopping, residents can visit the eclectic mix of shops and boutiques just north in the hip and trendy neighborhood of REO Town, including Thriftique and Vintage Junkies for secondhand treasures, The Record Lounge for new and used vinyls, and Voodoo's World of Oddities and The Screamatorium for peculiar and creepy finds. Residents can also find plenty of dining options in REO Town, including the local favorite Saddleback BBQ, famous for its slow-smoked meat using hardwoods sourced from mid-Michigan, along with in-house made-from-scratch sauces and seasonings and comfort sides. Good Truckin’ Diner is popular for breakfast, serving hearty omelets, burritos and sweet treats like cereal shakes, as well as specialty burgers and street tacos for later in the day. Sleepwalker Spirits and Ale serves specialty pizza and bar appetizers alongside house-brewed beer, wine, cider and seltzer, while Blue Owl Coffee is a favorite for specialty lattes, seasonal drinks and their signature craft non-alcoholic coffee cocktails.
