Where the suburbs meet the city
Northside Lansing exists at the intersection of past and present. It is characterized by early 20th-century, shotgun-style houses on its west side and the contemporary open-air shopping mall on its east side. The relative affordability is also a big draw due to taxes and the median home price, which is about two-thirds of homes in Lansing. “It’s very close to East Lansing. People who don’t want the higher East Lansing taxes like to live here,” says Realtor Angela Averill, who sells homes in the neighborhood with Century 21 Affiliated.

Residents park in driveways or detached garages in their backyards. Northside Lansing is made up of 1920s shotgun-style houses, Craftsman bungalows and 1950s ranch styles priced from $60,000 to $180,000. "The houses are older, so a lot of them need work on the roofs and foundations," says Realtor Sandra Schafer, who sells homes in the neighborhood with RE/MAX Real Estate Professionals.
