Rife with outdoor space and community spirit
Situated blocks away from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Arboretum and the western shores of Lake Wingra, Westmorland is a suburb with ample outdoor recreation 4 miles southwest of downtown Madison. “Westmorland Park is a big community draw,” says local Realtor Tracy Tompkins of Relish Realty, who has sold homes in the neighborhood. But the park is more than just a place to stay active– it’s also a place for neighborhood gatherings and events, like the annual Fourth of July parade. According to Tompkins, Westmorland is a community-oriented neighborhood where residents regularly reach out to one another for babysitting, pet sitting and lawn-care services. And with restaurants a short walk away on Monroe Street and downtown accessible by bike path, this centrally located neighborhood is perfect for those who prefer the scenic route.
Westmorland has access to several nearby golf courses, including Glen Golf Park.
Many of the homes in Westmorland are modest, starting in the low 300s.

Prices start around $300,000 on the lower end, generally for a fixer-upper, but can climb above $700,000 for a four-bedroom house with an open floorplan. Westmorland also boasts a handful of historic houses, such as seven Lustron steel homes and the Herbert and Katherine Jacobs House, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.

The neighborhood comes together at Westmorland Park
The heart of the community lies in Westmorland Park, where families gather for fun throughout the seasons. After school, kids can get their energy out on the playground, join in a game on one of the many sports courts, or carve up the ice on the rink in winter. The park really shines in summer, though, particularly on the Fourth of July. The annual celebration– which has been ongoing since 1941– has included everything from pony rides to carnival games to live music but is always kicked off with a parade through the neighborhood.

Residents are a short ways from the Spring Trail entrance to the University of Wisconsin-Madison Arboretum, where they can explore the park’s 17 miles of trails that wind through woodlands, wetlands and prairies. The Arboretum hugs the southern shores of Lake Wingra, but head to the northern banks to Wingra Park, and locals can rent canoes, kayaks, and paddle boats for a chance to get out on the water. On the opposite side of the neighborhood, residents are also a quick stroll from The Glen Golf Park, a public 9-hole golf course that doubles as a scenic spot to take the dogs for a walk on Monday mornings before the first tee time.
