Highly rated public schools
For parents of children in Field, there are several high-ranking schooling options nearby. There’s Hale Elementary School, which serves kindergarten through grade 4 and has an A from Niche for teachers and an A-minus in academics. Field Elementary School is a B-rated public school that serves third grade through fifth grade that’s conveniently located within the neighborhood. Both elementary schools “are among the higher-rated schools in Minneapolis,” Hong says. The school offers robust after-school enrichment and additional support for English learners. Students move on to B-rated Justice Page Middle School and A-minus-rated Washburn High School. Washburn High offers a comprehensive foreign language department that includes American Sign Language, Spanish, French and Arabic.

There are several local dining destinations in Field at the intersection of 48th Street and Chicago Avenue. Residents can stop off for their morning coffee at Sovereign Grounds, pick up dinner at BaGu Sushi & Thai or make a pitstop at Herbie Butcher’s Fried Chicken. And on a hot summer day, people like to cool off with an ice cream cone at Pumphouse Creamery. Movies on the big screen and live musical acts can be found at The Parkway Theatre, a small venue that’s been in the neighborhood for more than 90 years. Many of my neighbors have lived here for decades. Close to bike trails and parks. Safe, cute. The only major drawback: airport noise. Most homes have been sound proofed, which is great--as long as your windows are closed. I'm used to it by now.
