Lantern-Pearwood-Keller is a suburban neighborhood 4 miles northwest of downtown Muncie. Located in the county’s top school district and surrounded by retail resources and family-friendly activities, Lantern-Pearwood-Keller is a quiet almost rural community. Despite being bordered to the south and west by farmland, residents are still just a few minutes from West McGalliard Road and the area's many shopping, dining and recreation options. There’s a Walmart less than a mile away, indoor play zones for kids, and athletic facilities including: a gymnastics center, weightlifting gym and the Northwest YMCA. Compared to houses in central Muncie, Lantern-Pearwood-Keller’s homes are much newer, and date back to the 1970s and early 90s, rather than the early 20th century. Delaware County’s best school district

Students in Lantern-Pearwood-Keller attend Yorktown Community Schools, which has an overall A rating and ranks as Delaware County’s best school district on Niche. Children start their education at the A-minus-rated Pleasant View Elementary School for kindergarten through second grade before continuing on to the A-minus-rated Yorktown Elementary School for third through fifth. Yorktown Elementary School ranks as Delaware County’s best public elementary school on Niche. Students then attend Yorktown Middle School, which has a B-plus rating and ranks as Delaware County’s second-best public middle school on Niche. From there, its on to Yorktown High School, which has an A rating and ranks as the county’s second-best public high school on Niche. Yorktown High School was also named a National Blue Ribbon School in 2012 and offers dual enrollment programs through Indiana University.

For breakfast, lunch or an afternoon sweet treat, residents head to Concannon’s Bakery Café. This local shop sells donuts, custom cakes and homemade candies along with a soup and sandwich menu. Dinners are best enjoyed at the Yummy Grill and Buffet, which has a sushi bar, hibachi grill and salad bar; or they can be picked up from nearby fast-food restaurants like Panda Express, Taco Bell or Steak ‘n Shake. Less than a mile from the neighborhood, West McGalliard Road is lined with big-box retailers like Walmart, Best Buy and Lowe’s, as well as a Ruler Foods for groceries.

Programming for all ages at the Kennedy Library

Many residents find community at the Kennedy Library, nearly 3 miles from the neighborhood. “Obviously, we have books, but we’ve got a lot more, too,” says Susan Fisher, public relations supervisor at the Muncie Public Library. “Whatever you can think of, we have a program for it.” New parents can take their babies to story times, toddlers can meet their peers at organized free play, and elementary and middle school kids can attend art and science classes. The library hosts Free Movie Fridays for families to enjoy, and adults can get involved in the library’s programming by attending book clubs and author talks.
