Dwight is the right choice
Located between the affluent Westville and the world-famous Yale University, the New Haven neighborhood of Dwight is a college town through and through. A quick trip down Chapel Street and residents will find themselves gazing up at the ornate architecture of Yale’s storied campus, surrounded the whole time by houses built in the wake of the War of 1812. With plentiful rental options, access to the university’s booming nightlife and one of America’s most famous pizza scenes, Dwight is the right choice for those who want to be in the center of all New Haven has to offer.
The historic houses of New Haven
Much of Dwight’s housing was constructed in the 19th and 20th centuries. Many of these older Victorian homes have been converted into duplexes and condominiums, so there is no shortage of rental options for students of nearby Yale. A three-family property from 1820 prices around $470,000, while an eight-bedroom home with two kitchens constructed in 1900 begins at $730,000. Sidewalks are ubiquitous, so locals enjoy strolling to Yale’s campus one mile west while shaded by mature trees.

There is also a Walgreens along Whalley Avenue. When dining out in New Haven, there is one go-to option on every local’s mind. “People always ask which pizza place they should go to,” Rossi says. “But they’re all great. The answer is whichever line is the shortest.” New Haven-style pizza is a point of local pride, and Dwight is just 1.5 miles from two of the most famous. Both Sally’s Apizza and Frank Pepe Pizzeria are storied institutions that come highly recommended. Sally’s is famous for their White Potato Rosemary Pie, while Frank Pepe’s signature is the white clam pizza invented in the 1960s.
