Central shopping, dining, entertainment and transportation
Midtown South includes some of New York’s best attractions. The iconic Empire State Building holds sway over an ever-changing skyline while the city’s main transit hub Penn Station and one of its top entertainment venues Madison Square Garden draw-in the hundreds of thousands. Koreatown has specialized retail stores, restaurants and karaoke. New condo buildings make the most of these amenities and have proximity to all other popular parts of town. “It’s the new center of high-rise living. You’re really in the middle of everything and have quick access to offices in all directions,” says Leonard Inzirillo, an agent with Douglas Elliman specializing in the area.

Multicultural eateries and luxury retailers
Koreatown is a distinct two-block district with popular restaurants and retail. Baekjeong is one of the best Korean barbeque joints in the city. The mingling scents of fried chicken and Korean beer can be experienced at Let's Meat while kimchi pancakes are a must at Osamil. Karaoke bars like Space can be found throughout. H Mart stocks groceries and other essentials.
Taking pride of place on Broadway, Macy’s first opened in 1901 and is still the largest upscale department store of its kind. The B&H Photo megastore on 9th Avenue is a vital resource for all New York photographers and videographers. Nearby Hudson Yards is home to a multi-level luxury mall with restaurants including celebrity chef-run Mercado Little Spain.

New high-rise condos with ample amenities
Though dominated by rental units, the area hosts a handful of new and recently updated high-rise condo towers. Two bedrooms range from $1.5 Million to $3.7 Million, depending on square footage and views. Most of these full-service developments–like Madison House–concentrate around 5th Avenue. The 805-foot-tall tower has a large plunge pool, an expansive co-working club and a children's art room. “Everything here is about volume and height; so you get great views Uptown and Downtown,” says Inzirillo, who heads up sales for the building.

The pros and cons of urban redevelopment
Over the next decade, the Penn District project will transform Penn Station, Madison Square Garden and surrounding city blocks with new mixed-use commercial and residential buildings. Though a significant improvement to the area, it will also require years of construction, which can sometimes be noisy, unsightly and obstructive.
Midtown South is also home to distinguished Empire State Building and Madison Square Garden.
