Access to major thoroughfares and community events

To the northeast of the city of Baltimore is the community of Overlea, where location is everything. “Overlea is in a very convenient location,” says Buddy Redmer, a Realtor with Keller Williams Gateway LLC who lives in Baltimore. “It straddles the line between Baltimore County and Baltimore City, so people can access both easily.” While the community may have easy access to the city of Baltimore, the Overlea Community Association holds events of their own, including annual events like ArtFest and fireworks at Fullerton Park. The collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge early on March 26th may have some effects on commute, especially since it is part of Interstate 695, a beltway around Baltimore, but most residents should still be able to reach downtown Baltimore easily. “The collapse isn’t that far away, but was in a different direction than what most residents will take,” Redmer says.

Cape Cods and Foursquares with some recent renovations

Many homes within Overlea are Cape Cod and American Foursquares, but there are also ranch, bungalows, split-levels and some Colonial Revivals. With a median price of $274,500, most homes can begin around $240,000 for a home with 1,300 square feet and reach $467,000 for one with over 2,400 square feet. While there is a grid pattern to roads in some sections, Overlea also has winding roads and steep hills. Homes tend to be closer together, with a small front yard, and most streets branch off of Belair Road before ending in a dead-end. Most homes were built before 2000, although some homes built as recently as 2017 can be found throughout the neighborhood. While there is room for street parking, most homes have private driveways and garages, with some carports as well. Some homes may have undergone recent renovations, more likely homes built before 1950, thereby increasing the price.

There is not a lot of career type of jobs in the area I live in but as you drive towards the city there is.

It can definitely fluctuate, so if you live here you must be prepared for constantly changing weather. Other than that, it's great weather. All the seasons are pretty definitive.

I've lived in overlea for over a year now. My neighborhood is quiet and my neighbors are very nice. The houses are gorgeous, Victorian style and historic which I love. The schools have decent ratings which is a huge plus writhing the Baltimore county area. However, we do live close to a busy road. The traffic does not stop for my preschool aged son's bus which has been concerning to me. And, there is the occasional wanderer. I have had my car broken into once but to be fair I did leave my car unlocked after a trip to the grocery store. Other than that, I do feel safe and I enjoy the area. Whitemarsh mall is near by, there are a few different grocery stores to choose from, and 695 is easy to get to. Overall I am happy with our move.

The local businesses are pretty nice. The area is moderately clean and when I enter one I usually leave with the items I intended to buy.
