A commuter town with a big personality
Just 13 miles from New York City and 7 miles from Newark, Nutley doesn’t feel like a commuter town. With an active event calendar and plenty of local restaurants to choose from nestled in the heart of town, Nutley has its own identity while keeping the option of commuting to NYC open. With green lawns and plenty of parks, Nutley residents who work downtown can come home to a lush world that changes its colors with the season. “Nutley is comprised of estates that were broken down,” says Realtor Matthew De Fede with Realty Executives Elite Homes. “The town was developed at the turn of the century, and parts of those estates have become the park system.”
Brick and siding Colonial Revivals in Nutley
Nutley homes are often Colonial Revivals in a mix of brick and siding, so even though homes are placed close together, each one stands out. Siding foursquares with a dormer window at the top and a front deck are also common. Yards vary in size, but most have light landscaping with bushes and flowers highlighting the slight slope of the land. Regardless of the yard size, houses have a walkway connecting the front door to the sidewalk or streets. Some properties will have one-car garages, but many people will park on both sides of the street. Homes in Nutley will list between $525,000 and $700,000, depending on lot size and the number of bedrooms. For something smaller, there are also condos available for closer to $315,000.
Colonial Revival homes are prominent throughout Nutley.

Nutley's pizzeria's and Middle Eastern restaurants
“Nutley has some of the best pizza on the Northern Seaboard,” De Fede says. “We probably have more pizza than Italy has.” Luna Wood Fire Tavern, one of Nutley’s pizza places, specializes in wood-fired pizzas but also offers plenty of other Italian favorites, like fusilli arrabbiata and rigatoni Bolognese. When not in the mood for pizza, residents can stop in Gabriella’s Place for Middle Eastern cuisine, featuring Turkish coffee and Kunafa. The Nutley Bagel Boy lives up to its name with bagels in every flavor, including pumpernickel, chocolate chip and French toast. For groceries, Target is just 1.6 miles from Nutley’s town center, along Kingsland Road. River Front Center, 2 miles away, boasts a Costco. The Promenade Shops at Clifton offer a Trader Joe's 1.6 miles from Nutley.

For getting around Nutley itself, buses stop along Franklin Avenue and Centre Street to connect residents to Nutley’s restaurants and parks. “You can literally walk from one side of town to the other, and you won’t have to worry about the traffic,” De Fede says. “There are biking paths and walking paths.” Mountainside Medical Center is the closest hospital, 3.3 miles from the community.

Nutley's Sunday farmers markets with walking tours
While Nutley isn’t far from Meadowlands Sports Complex or MetLife Stadium for concerts and sporting events, there’s plenty happening right in Nutley, like the Nutley Farmers Market. From June through October, Nutley’s Sunday market features everything from locally-grown produce and baked goods to flower and homemade cheeses. Residents can stop and sit at the picnic tables to listen to the week’s live music. Each week also features the Market Walk and Talk, where a leader from a specific field, like health, fitness, government or law, leads a group of Nutley residents and speaks to them about their area of expertise. At Memorial Park I, the Fall Festival is a September tradition featuring live music, local vendors and great food.
