An East Oakland neighborhood with historic homes
Located at the heart of East Oakland, the neighborhood of Jefferson has an old feel, both through its vintage homes and its core community of longtime residents. It retains a quiet feel while having easy access to transportation options all at a price range that’s below the region’s average. “The homes are on the affordable side for the city. And you’re really close to the Fruitvale BART station and the Laurel District. It’s a great location for the price,” says Realtor Lauren Quach of Compass Real Estate.

Prewar homes line Jefferson's streets
Jefferson, like many of Oakland’s inner neighborhoods, captures a snapshot of the city’s heyday in the 1920s. As the city’s waterfront manufacturing industries boomed, communities like Jefferson sprung up to provide affordable housing to the workers. Most of Jefferson’s homes trace their construction to that decade, and their bungalow and Craftsman styles have a timeless appeal. Homes here cost between $550,000 and $915,000. Though almost every home here was built before World War II, many have been remodeled, fetching higher prices than their original-build counterparts. Jefferson’s streetscapes are defined by small, colorful homes sitting behind white picket fences and sidewalks, presenting homebuyers with both historic charm and an inviting residential environment to experience.
Walking around Jefferson is a colorful journey with bright Craftsman-style homes and others.
